The Importance of Variety in Our Business

I’ve grown up in Southern California with a “cultured” taste for great ice cream. Baskin Robbins is a chain that’s now been around for many, many years – almost all of my life. Their motto has always been “31 Flavors”. Ok, what’s the point? Every choice begins with vanilla, and finishes up with a seasoning and a color, and a topping. Got it? A base product, then variations to “spruce it up” creating differentiation.

In examining your business – product, products, service or services. Singular or plural, what is your base product or service and what do you or can you “add on” for differentiation to your client or customer? Are you providing choices?

Are you an Estate Planning Attorney that begins with a will and hopefully finishes with a trust to avoid your client’s family having to go through probate?

Are you an Insurance Agent beginning with a Term Insurance sale?? Yet, later, taking on more licenses so you can become a Financial Advisor and offer lots of products and many needed services. Are you evolving to the needs of the market?

Are you a Tax Professional just doing tax returns, yet realize maybe doing corporate audits could dramtically enhance your billings and clientele.

The issue is: what is your base product or service? Maybe it’s not product or service, rather it’s your everyday methods of how you prospect. Whatever it is, it’s your foundation. Now once that’s in place, are you adding on the other 30 different ways, so you, like Baskin Robbins, “comes across” to the public as a business with lots of choices. Yes or no?

This is something of significance to identify in your business.

I’m looking out for you!
