1. Poor Money Management
Failing to manage our time well seems to go hand in hand with failing to manage our money well. Money problems can cause a great amount of stress in our relationships with our family members.
2. Tardiness
When we don’t manage our time, we are often late for work or other important appointments. We are not prepared ahead of time, so we are trying to get everything ready at the last minute. We may put our lives and the lives of others in danger by driving too fast to get to our destination. Then we are rattled and unsettled when we do finally arrive.
Our friendships can also be impacted when we can’t be depended on to get somewhere on time.
3. Job Problems
The tardiness we just mentioned can cause job difficulties. A person who is consistently late for work my get into trouble or lose his or her job. Or poorly managing time on the job can cause you to fall behind on responsibilities and be unfocused and unproductive.
4. Never Getting Things Finished
In order to be productive we need to be good stewards of our time. It is frustrating to come to the end of the day and realize you didn’t get the things done that you wanted to accomplish. You wonder where the time went, and feel that you wasted the day away.
5. Home Management
Managing our homes requires good time management. If we don’t have it, we end up eating fast food too often, running out of clean clothes, and having a stressed-out family because we’re so disorganized.
6. Poor Role Model for Our Children
Our children often imitate our actions more than they listen to our words. We may be setting them up for failure if we consistently set an example of not running our own lives well.
What can we do to remedy the situation if we have problems in this area?
First of all, create a list. This is a simple, yet very effective tool. Prioritize the tasks in order of importance. A simple spiral notebook works fine for this. Put the date at the top of the page, and write your list for that day. Check items off when you have them completed.
Use a large calendar or daily planner. Write in all important dates and appointments for yourself and your family members. This enables you to see your schedule at a glance and be prepared for the activities coming up.
Get motivated and self-disciplined. Be realistic in how your life is being affected. Picture how much better it will be when you get your time under control. A few changes can make a big difference in your life and the lives of your family members.
