If you remember when you first started your business you would have had clear targets around what you were setting out to achieve. You would have had an air of confidence that you were going to achieve those things, and a firm belief in the product or services which you were offering.
Now, fast forward a number of years to today and think about where your business is now. You will be established in a market. You will have a number of clients and customers. You will have existing relationships. All of these things are extremely valuable.
So why don’t you take the time to think about your future prospects of your business? Where in the market do you want to be aligned? What kind of customers are you looking to attract? Where do you want to be in a few years time? All of these things can begin to help you to focus your attentions on where your business is heading and your future prospects as opposed to the day to day running of operations.
There have lots of surveys conducted with those people that set themselves a clear target which is measurable and has a deadline, against those who tick over day to day. Those with targets will 90% of the time perform better just by setting themselves goals.
This also applies to companies. If all of the employees have a clear vision for where they are expecting the company to go to, then hopefully they will all be pulling in the same direction. If you are to encourage your employees that your ambitious ideas are for their benefit after a period of time you will be able to influence their thinking.
Often the problem that business owners have is that they are unable to take an objective point of view. As all of us will have experienced, it is very easy to see something from the outside. If you are on the inside, what may seem an impossible situation or problem can potentially be easily solved.
