Saying Thank You – the Importance of Showing Gratitude

Saying thank you means everything. Show your appreciation when it is deserved. When people do something nice for you, tell them thank you. They have found you important enough to go out of their way to improve your life in some way, so show them you are gracious for that. You know how it feels to be unappreciated. Perhaps you went out of your way to help someone or just be nice, and when they don’t say thank you, you feel like you wasted your time. Don’t make others feel that way. When someone takes the initiative to improve your life, acknowledge them by showing your gratitude.

Being thankful, however, goes a bit beyond just a human race interaction. Showing gratitude on a spiritual level is very important as well. Make it known to whatever god or higher power you believe in that you are thankful for the things they have given you. Whether it’s the promotion you received, the beautiful sunrise that morning, or the birth of your first child, take the time to physically stop and say thank you. Be aware of the gifts you have been given, even the small ones. I like to tell my God thank you when I don’t have a stressful day at work and I hit my goal for the day. I also say thank you when the cat lets me sleep all night. Simple things add up in your life when you stop and realize how much you really have to be thankful for.

Stop at some point today and consider the blessings you’ve been given. Recognize how much beauty there is around you and be appreciative for it. When others go out of their way to do something kind for you, tell them you are thankful and respect their gesture. Becoming a better human being involves showing gratefulness. To quote Henry Ward Beecher, “Gratitude is the fairest blossom which springs from the soul.”
