Some prefer to think of multi-level marketing as a tree, which does make sense. The reason is because each member has the potential to recruit several other members, producing more branches in the tree. In nature, the number of branches that sprout from a major branch is pretty much determined by the genetics of the tree. In MLM though, branches can grow with varying numbers – some members are really good at recruiting.
The idea is that members of one level of the network will recruit members “below” them, and they in turn do the same to others “below” them. Aside from getting new people to join, you also have to teach them how to do things, and they in turn do the same to their recruits. Since information can be propagated in this manner, so too can goods and services – and this is where the true strength of MLM comes to the fore.
In traditional ordinary business models, the sale stops at the register. The customer picks up what they want, pay at the register, and your role as seller goes no further. In MLM though, a sale can lead to recruitment, which can also lead to sales and recruitment, and so on and so forth. Additionally, by adding more branches to the tree, you increase the ability of the tree as a whole to produce profit.
This recursive process is what allows the MLM tree to grow and flourish. It is quite simply franchising on a more personal scale, which causes it to be more dynamic and active. As we all know, companies which do franchising like fast food chains have made their owners pretty rich. MLM can be just as full of profit potential for each member.
The synergistic mechanism that drives MLM network marketing, as well as the accessibility and ease of running such a business at the individual level, makes it an attractive option for many. It is a reasonable way to generate some extra income for yourself, and only takes a little capital.
