Visual FX have taken over the film industry, 3d architectural visualisation has taken over the property industry and 3d animation has taken over..well just about everything. It would be difficult to watch 30 minutes of commercial television without seeing something created in 3d.
But to what extent will 3d visualisation infiltrate out lives? As digital media, gaming and online reality become more and more popular, 3d visualisation and animation is becoming increasingly important. With entire cities being built and populated completely online, there is quite a lot of opportunity for 3d visualisation professionals to take advanatage of the multitude of medias available.
While it is impossible to say exactly how far 3d will go…it is my belief that with the soon coming gpu technology that promises to revolutionise the rendering industry, we will definitely be seeing a rise in the quality of 3d renderings and also the speed at which they can be produced. Already there are many real time rendering software options available.
And with the popularity of second life and other online communities, there is a seeminly endless need for architectural visualisation. And as technology advances and the quality of online worlds becomes better, the need for high end architectural visualisation will increase spectacularly.
I would not be surprised if in 20 years our houses will be complete with a media room that hosts a 3d holographic media player which streams live interactive content directly to our homes.
